Early Life
Patrick Leonard Sajdak was named Pat Sajak on October 26, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois. His paternal grandparents were all Polish.
Pat’s mother remarried after his father passed away as a small boy. He was a student at Columbia College Chicago and a front desk agent for the Palmer House.
Career
Sajak was a DJ in Nashville in the early 1970s at the 3:00–5:00 pm time slot as their afternoon personality. Sajak’s broadcasting professor told him about the need for a news anchor at the local radio station WEDC while he was still a student. He applied, and the station gave him the 6 am time slot.
In 1981, Pat was allowed to succeed Chuck Woolery as host of Wheel of Fortune by the king of game shows, Merv Griffin. Unfortunately, NBC President Fred Silverman denied Sajak’s potential employment because he was “too local.” In response, Merv Griffin abruptly ended the entire program and halted production of more episodes until Sajak was hired. Sajak has hosted the nightly and midday syndicated editions of Wheel of Fortune for more than 30 years.
Sajak beat Bob Barker of Price is Right in 2018 to claim the title of a host with the longest tenure of any game show. Pat has been honored for his efforts on the show with three Emmy awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He received the title from Guinness World Records on March 22, 2019.

Sajak had a role in the 1982 comedy Airline II: The Sequel. Pat Sajak had a short-lived late-night chat show on CBS called The Pat Sajak Show. He departed when the afternoon Wheel of Fortune episode started. In January 1989, the first episode aired, and the final one did so in April 1990.
Sajak works as an outside director for Eagle Publishing, a conservative publishing company. He is a trustee and vice chairman at Hillsdale College in southern Michigan. Sajak is a regular podcaster and poster for the ricochet.com conservative blog. He began making contributions to the National Review Online in 2010. He also developed several puzzle games, the most popular of which is Lucky Letters from 2007.
Personal Life
Pat and Lesly are parents to two children: Maggie Marie Sajak, a daughter, was born in 1995, and Patrick Michael James Sajak, a son, was born in 1990. Maggie wants to be a country artist and has three singles out. Pat Sajak admitted that he doesn’t believe that climate change is happening. He also gives money to Young America’s Foundation, a group that supports conservative speakers nationwide on college campuses.
Family Sajak belongs to the Churches of Christ. In November 2019, Pat underwent an immediate gastrointestinal operation to clear a blockage. Vanna White took over as host while he was healing. On December 5, 2019, he returned to work three weeks later.

As of this writing, Pat Sajak makes $14 million yearly as the Wheel of Fortune host. Vanna White, in comparison, earns $10 million yearly. Six shows on Wheel of Fortune are taped daily, four days per month. Two Thursdays and two Fridays are taped. They arrive at 8:30 am on the tape day and begin shooting at noon.
