Big Shot Season 2: Release Date & Confirmation on Disney+!

Date:

A hot-tempered basketball coach who throws a chair at a referee may not sound like the type of guy you’d want to spend time with, let alone coach at an elite all-girls high school. However, there is a potential that you will grow to enjoy him as the Disney+ series Big Shot progresses—and this is not just because he is played by John Stamos.

“This is not Sesame Street or Breaking Bad. It’s in the middle, and it’s good,” Stamos, who portrays Coach Marvyn Korn, stated in a June interview. “What this show achieves by being less edgy is that it compensates with heart. I believe it is a very warm, emotional show that is neither overly sentimental or cheesy.”

Everything You Need To Know

While that may be true, Korn was not a warm and fluffy character throughout the first season of Big Shot. After being sacked from a high-profile NCAA position, he arrives at Westbrook School for Girls and immediately makes a poor impression on his new team, even telling one of his players she needed to lose five pounds. What was her response? “They all claimed you were insane. They were incorrect. You are nothing more than a bully.”

Korn, on the other hand, gradually improves, becoming more of a mentor and less of a taskmaster as he develops relationships with his players. He even improves as a father to his own adolescent daughter, who moves in (and to Westbrook!) when her mother (Korn’s ex-wife) accepts a job in Italy. Coach Korn eventually “becomes the man he’s secretly always desired and the father he never had,” according to Disney.

Big Shot won over fans and critics alike; one labelled it one of the finest original Disney+ shows of 2021. That could be because the show isn’t just about Korn; it’s also about the young women he mentors. Their lives on and off the court are chronicled in the show. “It’s about empowerment and young females discovering their voices and pursuing their dreams unashamedly,” adds Yvette Nicole Brown, who plays the school’s dean.

Another reason for the show’s success could be that shows centred on young female athletes are still uncommon, even nowadays, and the young women on the Westbrook Sirens had to learn to play. “Not a single part of it was fabricated. There were parts I wished were not genuine, but they were,” actress Nell Verlaque revealed in April 2021.

On September 2, Disney confirmed that a second season of Big Shot is in the works. Stamos is ecstatic. “At its heart, Big Shot is about guts and heart, as Disney+ demonstrated by renewing our season,” Stamos wrote on Instagram, expressing gratitude to fans and critics alike. “I’m very thrilled to continue playing Coach Korn, a man who learns to let go of preconceived prejudices and gains knowledge from an extraordinary group of women who help him improve and grow,” he added later. And yet, he still has so much more to learn…thankfully, Season 2 will provide him with that opportunity.”

Is Big Shot going to be cancelled?

When Season 1 concluded in June, viewers were ecstatic to learn what happened to Korn and his team—so when there was no news of a renewal for weeks thereafter, they began to fear the series had been cancelled. Stamos, on the other hand, maintained hope. Stamos stated at the time, “I have a good feeling about returning, although it is premature.” Fortunately, Disney confirmed the show’s revival in September—and the answer was yes!

What is the release date for Big Shot Season 2?

It is unknown when Big Shot Season 2 will premiere, especially given that filming will not begin until 2022. The show is expected to premiere later that year.

What transpired during the first season of Big Shot?

Coach Marvyn Korn is brash, arrogant, and impulsive. After losing his NCAA coaching job for throwing a chair at a referee, he offers to coach at a posh all-girls private high school, Westbrook. His tough demeanour does not endear him to the athletes. Emma, Korn’s daughter, also moves in with him full-time when her mother accepts a job in Italy. Korn gradually learns to soften his severe exterior and develop better relationships. The Westbrook Sirens improve their appearance on the court, and the public, especially the University of California, Santa Barbara, takes note (UCSB). The school hires him as a coach as the Sirens prepare for a pivotal game against the Carlsbad Cobras. Coach Korn is forced to devise new plays, including one dubbed the “Sacrifice Play,” after the Siren playbook goes missing and they suspect Carlsbad.

Coach Korn declines the UCSB job offer and opts to remain at Westbrook. “I set out to design a new playbook for the team, which I accomplished, but I ended up drafting a new one for myself,” he tells them prior to the big game. Tensions are high as a result of various shenanigans designed to throw the Sirens off their game (and an invading swarm of bees! ); Coach Korn advises playing without fans. After utilising the Sacrifice Play, Mouse throws the game-winning basket in a nail-biter.

Who is the cast of Big Shot?

Stamos, who is still widely recognised as “Uncle Jessie” from the Full House franchise, was not anticipating to play Coach Korn at all. When he learned he would be a part of a “new” David E. Kelley production, he envisaged himself playing a darker role, possibly a lawyer. “I was never athletic. “I’ve never been into or watched sports,” he previously told Collider.

Fortunately, he succeeded—and Kelley is relieved Stamos got the position. “The show has touched so many people’s hearts—particularly John Stamos’ genius as Coach Marvyn Korn,” the writer/producer stated. Stamos, of course, will return for Big Shot Season 2, and it appears as though the following players from Season 1 will join him on the court:

Assistant Coach Jessalyn Gilsig Barrett, Holly

Yvette Robichaux as George Pappas Richard Robichaux Nicole Brown in the role of Sherilyn Thomas

Sophia Mitri Schloss in the role of Emma Korn

Nell Verlaque in the role of Louise Gruzinsky

Tiana Le in the role of Destiny Winters

Tisha Carolyn “Mouse” Smith as played by Eve Custodio

Cricket Wampler in the title role of Samantha “Giggles” Finkman

Monique Green in the role of Olive Cooper

Are there any spoilers for Big Shot Season 2?

Although no Big Shot Season 2 spoilers have surfaced, there is plenty of speculation about what might happen next. (Again, Season 1 spoilers ahead!)

Due to the fact that Westbook defeated Carlsbad in the Season 1 finale, the team will continue as a Division II high school. This evolution will feature new basketball teams and personalities, as well as more difficult playing obstacles. Are they going to be able to maintain their Division II status?

The Season 1 finale also revealed that Assistant Coach Holly is set to take over as coach at Carlsbad, the team that narrowly defeated the Westbrook Sirens. That implies a rematch with Westbrook is a possibility, which would be a high-stakes situation for all parties involved.

Where was Big Shot shot?

While it appears as though the Westbrook Sirens are performing in a real high school, Big Shot was actually filmed on the Paramount lot in Los Angeles, California. COVID-19 was a source of contention for the set, which was shut down multiple times due to positive COVID testing. “My son went to bed crying last night and woke up crying this morning because he is unable to be with his father,” Stamos explained in January. “I’m grateful to have a job; it’s a luxury at this point in time.” I was exposed to the virus for the third time and am now need to isolate for an additional ten days!”

Additionally, Stamos pleaded with Twitter users to take the pandemic seriously. “I believe my job is to do everything possible to keep us safe,” he tweeted. “However, please adhere to the guidelines – your actions have a far-reaching impact on so many more lives than your own. Thanks.”
